Ecosystem Based Management Workshop

March 09, 2017 –  UNEP-CEP as Secretariat to the Cartagena Convention with financial support from the UNDP/GEF CLME+ Project will be convening a two day stakeholder dialogue to formulate the Ecosystem Based Management sub-project for the North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem (LME). Meeting of the Regional Working Group on IUU Fishing

March 06, 2017 – The first Meeting of the CRFM/OSPESCA/WECAFC-FAO Regional Working Group on Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (RWG IUU) was held 1-2 March 2017 at the UN House in Barbados.  The RWG IUU was established at the 15th Session of WECAFC which took place in 2014 in Trinidad and Tobago. Regional closed season for the Caribbean Spiny Lobster

March 2, 2017 – Lobster fishing is simultaneously suspended in the countries from the System for Central American Integration (SICA) from March 1st to June 30th: Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Dominican Republic. In Belize, the closed season runs from February 15th to June 15th. During this period the Caribbean Spiny Lobster cannot be caught or commercialized. Meeting of Interim Coordination Mechanism for Sustainable Fisheries

Formal launch of the Ecolangosta+ Sub-project

February 23, 2017 – Regional Workshop on sustainable spiny lobster fisheries

This morning a two-day workshop started in San José, Cosa Rica on the sustainability of Caribbean Spiny Lobster fisheries. The workshop marks the launch of “ECOLANGOSTA+” (2017-2019), a subproject of the UNDP/GEF CLME+ Project. February 13, 2017 – On 6 and 7 February 2017, representatives of the Brazilian Ministries of Environment, Foreign Affairs, Fisheries and other members of the Brazilian Inter-ministerial Commission for Sea Resources (CIRM) welcomed the Regional Coordinator of the UNDP/GEF CLME+ Project, Mr. Patrick Debels, and the Coordinator of the UN Environment’s Caribbean Environment Programme (Cartagena Convention), Dr. Lorna Inniss, in Brasilia, Brazil, for a 2-day joint workshop.
